Technology Law
Ted Barthel is a shareholder in the Milwaukee office of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C and is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Counseling & Protection, Technology Law, Emerging & Entrepreneurial Companies, and Sustainability & Renewable Energy teams. He assists innovative businesses protect and leverage intellectual property for commercial advantage.

Mr. Barthel is a registered patent attorney and his practice focuses on patent matters, technology-based agreements, and trademarks. He has extensive experience in patent-related opinions and U.S./foreign patent preparation and prosecution in the areas of: complex polymer chemistry; water treatment systems; medical devices; renewable energy technologies; and food science.

Mr. Barthel has argued successfully before the U.S. Patent Office Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Barthel practiced law for seven years in Chicago, last with Bell, Boyd & Lloyd (now K&L Gates).

In addition to his legal experience, Mr. Barthel worked as a production and research chemist at Sigma-Aldrich Chemical Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mr. Barthel is also a military veteran having served as a satellite operations officer in the U.S. Air Force where his duties involved satellite launch, command, and control. Highlighting Mr. Barthel's military career was his role as Mission Controller for the successful launch of Milstar Flight 2, a billion dollar military communications satellite.
